SIPI & ALMA DE SALMÓN

Amb l'arribada de la calor van arribant també nous oslenyos. Fa uns mesos ja que tenim el plaer de comptar entre nosaltres amb SIPI i Laura Amador.
A l'illa de Puerto Rico, un SIPI es refereix a un petit xarrup de líquid, en general per provar alguna cosa nova o refrescar-se una mica. I a això ens convida SIPI, a provar alguna cosa nova i refrescant al món del skate. Els seus patinets son 100% fets a mà amb fustes sòlides. Els talls, les fustes, i els gràfics són elements que varien de peça a peça, per la qual cosa cadascuna és una obra d'art única amb la seva pròpia personalitat. 

With the arrival of the good weather, new osloens have arrived to OSLO. For some months now we are happy to have SIPI and Laura Amador between us. 
On the island of Puerto Rico, a SIPI means a small sip of liquid, usually to taste something new or to cool down a little. With that said, SIPI invites you to try something new and refreshing in the world of skateboarding. His skateboards are 100% hand crafted from solid woods. The cuts, the refinement of the wood, and the graphics are elements that vary from board to board, making each a unique work of art with its own personality.

Laura és especialista en fotografia de paisatge i arquitectura, i el 2013 partint de la necessitat de tornar a l'origen va engegar el projecte Alma de Salmón. En temps de la imatge digital e les pantalles, Alma de Salmón és la passió per fer que la imatge torni a ser única, passi per les mans i que faci el recorregut complet per aconseguir romandre, sense dreceres.

Laura is specialized in architecture and landscape photography. Based on a need to return to her origins, she started the project Alma de Salmón in 2013. In these times of digital images and displays, Alma de Salmón is the passion for images to become  unique again, creating these beautiful objects that we can wrap with our hands.

I OSLO s'omple de flors per donar-li la benvinguda; sobre ceràmica, il·lustracions, sedes... qualsevol material és bo per celebrar l'arribada del bon temps i els dies més llargs.

And OSLO has filled with flowers; on ceramics, illustrations, silks ... all the materials are good to celebrate the arrival of good weather and longer days.

Els que heu passat pel nostre taller us haureu adonat que som molt xerraires; ens agrada explicar-vos el nostre projecte, les aventures dels nostres creadors, l'història que hi ha darrere de cada objecte... Molt sovint ens trobem amb visitats que presten especial atenció a l'obra gràfica que tenim esposada i és que tenim la sort de comptar amb artistes i il·lustradores de primera. A aquests visitats, amb sensibilitat per lo visual i ganes de descobrir nous llenguatges els convidem a passar pel local de la nostra sòcia i veïna Elisa Munsó; El Diluvio Universal. Molt a prop d'OSLO, al carrer Gulleries nº3, té l'estudi l'Elisa, on elabora la seva obra a l'hora que exposa el treball d'artistes locals. Al nostre Facebook no ens cansem de convidar-vos a les seves inauguracions i és que són uns dels events que més ens agraden del barri de Gràcia. Aquest dissabte 7 de març a les 20h, en el marc del Festival La Dinamitera "Art i Feminisme", inaugurarà una exposició col·lectiva de més de 30 artistes que s'articula juntament amb altres dos centres del barri; Untlited BCN i Cadàver Exquisit.

Those who have come to our shop have notice that we like to explain our story, the adventures of our creators, the story behind each object ... Often we have visitors that pay particular attention to the graphic works that we've exposed. We use to invite to those visitors with visual sensitivity and desire to discover new languages to our partners studio El Diluvio Universal. Runned by Elisa Munsó, this place it's just around the corner, Guilleries street nº3, so close to OSLO. Besides being her studio it's also a gallery where she exposes the work of local artists. Her openings are one of the MUST GO of Gracia's neighborhood. This Saturday 7th of March at 20h, she will take part with other two spaces of the neighborhood, Untlited BCN and Cadàver Exquisit, at La Dinamitera Festival "Art and Feminism". More than 30 artists of diferent disiplines will show their work under the title "We don't need another hero"

I ja que parlem d'estudis gràfics... no podia faltar el nostre germà petit que aviat complirà dos anys; Oslo Graphic Barceloneta. Un espai de co-working on conviuen artistes, il·lustradors i dissenyadors gràfics i que comptem també amb una galeria on organitzen diverses exposicions a l'any. Com el seu nom indica, la seva seu està a la Barceloneta, molt a prop del mar i puntualment imparteixen cursos que tenen a veure amb el seu àmbit; serigrafia, cal·ligrafia, enquadernació... Si encara no els coneixeu us convidem a venir a la festa d'aniversari que celebraran el proper dissabte 7 de Març a les 20h (Carrer Maditerrània, 4). Animeu-vos que ens divertirem!

And speaking of graphic studios ... we have to mention our little brother who will soon be two years old; Oslo Graphic Barceloneta. A gallery and co-working space where artists, illustrators and graphic designers work hand by hand. As its name suggests, the studio is located in Barceloneta, near to the mediterranean sea, and occasionally they also offer courses related to their field; screenprinting, calligraphy, bookbinding ... If you still don't know them, you are welcome to come to the birthday party held on Saturday, 7th of at 20pm (Mediterrània Street, 4). Let's have some fun!

Miteta, art i disseny per al dia a dia

miteta som Sara i Candela, una asturiana i una gallega amigues des de fa 10 anys. Ens vam conèixer a Salamanca estudiant Belles arts i ja aleshores formàvem un bon equip. Sabíem que en algun moment acabaríem treballant juntes. En acabar la universitat vam prendre camins diferents. Sara va anar a Londres on va estar treballant al V&A Museum per després tornar a Espanya i treballar com a dissenyadora gràfica. La seva inquietud per conèixer noves cultures la va portar a Shanghai, on va estudiar un màster en idioma, cultura i negociació xinesa. Jo vaig anar a Barcelona i després d'un temps treballant al sector del comerç vaig decidir ampliar els meus estudis i fer un màster de moda per després treballar amb la dissenyadora Mariana Méndez. Sempre vam saber que tard o d'hora acabaríem treballant juntes.

miteta are Sara and Candela, Asturian and Galician friends for 10 years. We met at Salamanca studying Fine Arts and at that time we were a good team. We knew that sometime we would work together. We just college and went different ways. Sara went to London where he worked in the V & A Museum and then return to Spain and working as a graphic designer. His interest in understanding new cultures took her to Shanghai, where he studied an MA in language, culture and Chinese negotiation. I went to Barcelona and after a time working in the commercial sector decided to broaden my studies and do a masters in fashion and then work with the designer Mariana Méndez. We always knew that sooner or later we would end up working together.

Un dia, a milers de quilòmetres de distància, Sara a Shanghai i jo a Barcelona, vam decidir que era el moment de fer alguna cosa i ho teníem molt clar, un projecte on gaudir i desenvolupar tota la nostra creativitat. Volíem fer el que ens agradava i com ens agradava, fusionant l'art i el disseny, les nostres dues passions. Així que, sense pensar-ho dues vegades, ens vam embarcar en un nou projecte: miteta.

One day, thousands of miles away, Sara in Shanghai and I in Barcelona, we decided it was time to do something and we were very clear, a project in which to enjoy and develop our creativity. We wanted to do what we liked and how we liked, a fusion of art and design, our two passions. So without thinking twice, we embarked on a new project: miteta.

Ara mateix, després de gairebé dos anys, jo estic a Mallorca, on tenim la nostra botiga-taller, i Sara s'ha desvinculat durant un temps del projecte per dur a terme la seva pròpia aventura personal a Malàisia.

Right now, after almost two years, I am in Mallorca, where we have our shop and workshop, and Sara has been disconnected for some time of the project to undertake their own personal adventure in Malaysia.

Si ens pregunten què és miteta, ens agrada dir que miteta és diversió, alegria i humor. És un estil de vida, un concepte que conjuga art i disseny per al dia a dia. L'art de la il·lustració aplicat a suports amb un elevat component de disseny. miteta és un món, alguna cosa absurda i sense vergonya, plena d'atreviment, imaginació i, sobretot, creativitat. miteta està fora d'allò corrent i lluny del corrent. miteta és viure sense por, gaudir del dia com si fos l'últim i envoltar-te de la gent i les coses que et fan somriure. Sota aquest criteri hem creat la nostra primera col·lecció: Lleva tiempo llegar a ser joven.

When asked what is miteta, we like to say miteta is fun, joy and humor. It is a lifestyle, a concept that combines art and design for every day. The art of illustration applied to supports with a high design component. miteta is an absurd and shameless world, full of chutzpah, imagination and, above all, creativity. miteta is unusual and current. miteta is to live without fear, enjoy the day as if it were the last and to surround yourself with people and things that make you smile. Under this criterion we set up our first collection: it takes time to become young.

En la nostra primera col·lecció, Lleva tiempo llegar a ser joven, hem volgut homenatjar aquests avis vitals i divertits que ens recorden cada dia que la joventut no és una qüestió d'edat sinó d'actitud. Perquè hi ha molts “vells” de 30 anys i “joves” de 80, els protagonistes d'aquesta col·lecció són aquests joves de 80 que mostren que la vida són dos dies i cal gaudir-la.

In our first collection, takes time to become young, we wanted to pay homage to these vital and funny grandparents who remind us every day that youth is not a question of age but to attitude. Because there are many "old people" 30 and "young people" 80 years old, the protagonists of this collection are those young 80 years old show that life is two days and have to enjoy it.

El nostre procés creatiu és propi i molt diferent al d'altres marques o dissenyadors. Desenvolupem conceptes a través d'il·lustracions i els apliquem a qualsevol tipus de producte. En aquest sentit, el propi concepte de la col·lecció determina en molts casos la tipologia dels productes. Com els tirants i els corbatins, dos accessoris molt dels nostres avis, encara que ara tornin a estar de moda.

Our creative process is proper and very different from other brands or designers. We develop concepts through artwork and apply to any type of product. In this sense, the concept of the collection often determines the type of products. As the braces and bow ties, two very typical accessories of our grandparents, but now back in fashion.

Esperem que us agradi el nostre treball i us convidem passar per Oslo a veure de prop els nostres productes i els de molts altres dissenyadors.

El viatge de Paola Sommella // Paola Sommella's journey

M'agradaria definir la meva personalitat creativa com una d'aquelles motxilles de viatgers amb brodats al·lusius als llocs visitats: cada inspiració, cada creació s'ha enganxat a la meva identitat com els records de les experiències viscudes al llarg d'un viatge.

Les etapes importants del meu itinerari creatiu han estat una infància transcorreguda pintant papers, una adolescència omplint pàgines de diaris amb collages i tipografies, quatre anys d'estudis acadèmics en escenografia, uns altres quatre investigant sobre el potencial del digital com a mitjà d'expressió i una última fase de sis anys per tornar a descobrir el valor de l'artesania.

I would define my creative identity like one of those travelers's backpacks embroidered with patches alluding to places they have visited: every inspiration, every creation has stuck to my personality as  memories of the experiences lived during a trip.

The important stages of my creative journey have been a childhood spent coloring papers, an adolescence filling diaries pages with collage and typography, four years of academic studies in set design, four more years to research the potential of the digital as a medium of expression and a final phase of six years to rediscover the value of craftsmanship.

Inquietud i curiositat han estat còmplices i fidels companyes de viatge, aliades fins en els camins més incerts; m'han suggerit d'explorar allà on sentia la necessitat de canviar i experimentar amb mitjans i tècniques noves, sense que em sentís obligada a seguir una trajectòria recta i delinear una certa continuïtat en el mètode.

Al llarg d'aquest recorregut m'he aturat més d'una vegada, com el 2008, època de crisi econòmica i personal, quan vaig traçar una nova ruta en el meu camí artístic i d'investigació, redescobrint i integrant el treball manual al procés de creació.

Aquell mateix any, vaig trobar un aparador estable a la meva primera pàgina web AboutPaola, un contenidor nascut per incorporar i mostrar finalment al públic gran part de la meva feina: des dels projectes més antics, personals i intangibles fins a les últimes creacions, on es concreta la fusió d'obra manual i digital.

Restlessness and curiosity have been complicit and faithful traveling companions, allies even in the most uncertain paths; they pushed me to explore when I felt the need to change and experiment with new media and techniques, without having to feel me forced to proceed in a straight path and outline some continuity in the method. Throughout this journey I have stopped more than once, as in 2008, when the economic crash and a personal crisis led me to draw a new path in my research, re-discovering and integrating the manual skills in the creative process.

In the same year, I found stable whereabouts in creating my first website AboutPaola, container born to incorporate and finally show the public much of my work, from the oldest, personal and conceptual projects to the latest creations, where I concretized fusion of manual and digital work.

Com el viatger que s'atura per contemplar la línia de l'horitzó que uneix cel i mar, així he trobat el meu equilibri en la fusió de dos mons: la matèria, en forma de ceràmica, fusta, guix o paper, s'ha fet suport per a les il·lustracions que surten de la pantalla i es lliuren a la intervenció manual per imprimir-se en un objecte híbrid i únic.

M'he orientat i m'he deixat fascinar per l'anatomia del cos humà, la geometria i la confrontació dels universos femení i masculí, temes que recorren al meu estudi i creació.

El viatge segueix i a la meva motxilla hi ha encara lloc per a més inspiració i invenció.

As the traveler who stops to contemplate the horizon line that unites sea and sky, so I found my balance in the fusion of these two worlds:

the matter, in the form of ceramic, wood, plaster or paper becomes the holder for artworks, which come out of the screen for a manual intervention and turn into a hybrid and unique object.

I have oriented  and focused myself  on the human body anatomy, the geometry and the confrontation of the male and female worlds, themes that recur in my study and creation. The journey continues and in my backpack there is still room for more inspiration and invention.

2 parells d'oslenyos // 2 couples of osloens

Fa temps ens adonàvem d'un fenomen que s'anava repetint entre els oslenyos; tenim tendència a juntarnos i treballar en grup. Així que no és d'estranyar que les últimes incorporacions a l'equip d'Oslo siguin col·lectius. Tenim el gust de presentar-vos a... KURTIK i XURRIS & CO! Benvinguts al team!

Kurtik són Neus i Genís. Treballen el cuir al seu taller del maresme; bosses, polseres, collarets, clauers, ronyoneres... Toven la seva inspiració a la natura i aposten pels dissenys orgànics i funcionals.

Some time ago we realized that a phenomenon between osloens; we tend to work in groups. So it is not surprising that the latest additions to the Oslo team are couples. We are pleased to introduce you ... KURTIK and Xurris & Co! Welcome to the team guys!

The creators behind Kurtik are Neus and Genís. They work with leather in their workshop of Maresme; bags, bracelets, necklaces, key chains, belts ... They find inspiration in nature and they handcraft organic and functional designs.

Xurris & Co són dues amigues amb una missió; fer coses noves, bizarres, divertides. Amb la fusta han trobat l'aliat ideal per les seves aventures que van des de postals, fermalls o decoració. A Oslo podeu trobar les seves pissarres-animals, per escriure tot allò que se't passi pel cap.

Xurris & Co. are two friends with a mission; create new, bizarre and funny things. They found on wood the ideal partner for their adventures. They use this material in  postcards, pins or decoration. In Oslo you can find their slate-animals, to write all the messages you want to.

¿Per què no? // Why not?

Els que ens coneixeu us haureu adonat que gaire convencionals no som. Ens agrada plantejar-nos i replantejar-nos les coses. Trobar noves fórmules, provar les teories i equivocar-nos pel camí. Preguntar-nos ¿per què?, i ¿per què no? 

Avui volem fer un petit recull dels creadors que davant d'un material li donen una volta més i el transformen en algo nou i novedos. A veure que us sembla.

Those who know us will know that we are not very conventional people. We like to find new ways. Find new formulas, prove theories and make some mistakes along the way. Wonder why ?, and why not?

OSLO som tota la gent que forma part o algun cop ha format part d'aquest projecte. OSLO no para de mutar, de créixer i d'enriquir-se amb cada oslenyo que passa per aquí. Avui volem donar les gràcies a l'Ester Ferrando, El Hombre Sapo i a Bapshis per compartir aquest viatge amb nosaltres; que tingueu molta sort amb els vostres projectes i ens veiem aviat!

Cocuan: Seduït pel cuir // Discovering leather

Sóc fill d'ebenista i vaig estar treballant amb el meu pare en la meva joventut. Potser per això sempre he sentit una especial atrecció cap a l'artesania.

I'm the son of a carpenter and I worked with my father during my youth. Perhaps that is why I have always felt a special attraction to crafts.

El tema de treballar amb cuir va començar fa 5 anys. Després de passar-me anys i anys treballant enfront de l'ordinador, el meu cap i les meves mans em demanaven desesperadament desintoxicar-me de tant bit. Per aquell temps buscava una cartera de pell, i com que no vaig trobar cap al meu gust vaig donar amb la solució: "la faré jo mateix". El que va venir a continuació va ser mesos de cerca, aprenentatge, assaig, error... em vaig adonar que gaudia amb allò. Així va sorgir la meva primera cartera. De seguida va tenir molta acceptació entre el meus coneguts, que van començar a demandar-me carteres, bosses... Amb ells vaig anar practicant i millorant la meva tècnica. Especialment amb la Marta, la meva companya, que es va convertir en el meu banc de proves particular. Gràcies al seu suport i a l'ànim dels meus amics em vaig plantejar fer un pas més per vendre els meus productes.

Working with leather began five years ago. After spending years and years working with my computer, my head and my hands desperately asked me to detox. At that time I was looking for a leather wallet, but I could not find any that I fully liked. I found the solution: "I will do it myself." What came next were months of searching, learning, trial and error ... And then all the people I know began to ask me for wallets, bags ... With them I practiced and improved my technique. Especially with Marta, my girlfriend, who became my private tester. Thanks to the support and encouragement of my friends I began making handcrafted leather goods. 

La meva filosofia de treball és crear productes molt simples i funcionals. Primer em plantejo la necessitat i després intento crear l'article que li doni resposta. Un element clau en Cocuan és evidenciar que el producte s'ha realitzat i cosit a mà. Per aixó en tots els articles té molta presència l'elaboració i la costura, amb un fil molt gruixut i un color que ressalta en contraposició amb el cuir. 

My philosophy is to create simple and functional products. First I consider the requirement and then I try to create the article that will offer the answer to this. Always using the minimun elements required. A key element in Cocuan is that all the process is handcrafted. That's why I make the seam with a thick thread and a color that stands out in contrast with the leather, to give to the stitch its relevance.
